Who We Spotted at Boston Innovators Group Meetup No. 1
One of Boston’s longest running tech event series took a BIG step forward Thursday night. The group formerly known as the Web Innovators Group (or WebInno) held its first event under its new name, Boston Innovators Group (or BIG), at District Hall—and the place was packed to the gills.
A lot of things have happened in Boston's tech startup scene since BIG (still getting used to calling it that) first started as WebInno 10 years ago. Namely, there wasn't much of a Boston startup scene to begin with back then.
As BIG founder and NextView Ventures Partner David Beisel wrote earlier this year:
A decade ago when WebInno started, the tech industry was still recovering from the crash that followed the dot-com bubble of the late ’90s. Startup funding was hard to find. So were experienced entrepreneurs and investors willing to act as mentors to young companies. Networking forums to exchange ideas were few and far between.
Now, Beisel wrote, many Boston entrepreneurs, investors and other people in Boston's tech ecosystem can claim that WebInno played a key part in moving their ventures forward, whether it was through a killer demo or one of those serendipitous meetings.
BostInno National Tech Editor Kyle Alspach and I attended BIG's first event last night. Here's who we saw:
Izzy Jacques is a senior associate at Radius, a Boston firm that helps companies that are expanding internationally with different kinds of business needs. She was on the lookout for tech companies that Radius could partner with.
