France: Digital Tax on Internet and Tech Giants
1/18/2019
France has introduced a tax on large multinational technology companies, known as the “GAFA tax” (after Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon). The GAFA tax seeks to ensure that large technology companies pay their perceived fair share of taxes in France. The tax will be levied on three revenue streams:
- Advertising revenue;
- Commission income generated by online marketplaces;
- Income from the resale of user data for advertising purposes.
