On May 7, 2017, France elected a new president, centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron. Overall, Macron has expressed that he is a supporter of maintaining France’s membership in the European Union, and that he embraces globalization and free trade. His plans include: the gradual reduction in the corporate tax rate to 25% from the current 33%; a reduction in public spending; and increased spending on training, transportation, health, energy and the environment.
