How to Position Your Company for International Success
By Larry Harding
It’s all about the team. If you’ve been following the serial publication of my eBook, Winning Globally: A Playbook for International Teams, you know that key themes emerge when planning for international expansion. These themes remain as your business moves through the lifecycle of international growth and maturity, and as your employees work toward operational excellence overseas. Number one on my list of overarching themes is the importance of careful research and planning – the “know before you go” rule – while a close number two is forming a cross-functional international expansion team to take on strategic planning and ongoing implementation of compliant and well-run overseas operations.
A company’s international team is usually comprised of key personnel from finance, tax, HR and legal. This group gains experience through entering each new market, allowing them to create policies and procedures that streamline the global expansion process — everything from vetting new countries to making sure ongoing activities are compliant with various local laws, customs and regulations. Forming and maintaining a strong international team is critical to minimizing your company’s financial and reputational risks and to improving return on your expansion investment.
Today marks the publication of the complete eBook, including a robust appendix with links to some of the most critical reference resources for international expansion and operations. I’d like to thank the Radius team of writers, editors, designers and expert advisors who helped me create the chapters of this book. The sum of the parts represents a lot of what I’ve learned over two decades, both as a CFO who was responsible for my company’s international expansion strategy and operations, and as an entrepreneur who founded a company to help ease the way to international success for others.
I invite you to download the book (or any chapter that interests you most), read it, ask questions, and send me your feedback at email@example.com.
